The National Crafts Museum, also known as Shilp Sangrahalaya or Craft Museum, is located in Delhi. This museum has been established to preserve, exhibit, and promote Indian handicrafts and folk art. It was inaugurated in the year 1956 and remains a center of exhibition and collection.

History of National Crafts Museum

The National Crafts Museum was established in 1956 to ensure the preservation, promotion, and display of Indian handicrafts. The museum was established under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and its founder Director General was Shri. Kamala Devi Chattopadhyay has made significant contributions to the preservation of Indian craftsmen and art forms. The museum was created to preserve the rich cultural heritage of India after independence.

Handloom and Textiles: The museum has a wide collection of Indian textile art. It includes Banarasi sarees, Kashmiri pashmina, Patola, Kanchipuram silk, and various regional textiles.
