History and Mythological Story

The temple is believed to have been established during the reign of Emperor Vikramaditya. Legend says that initially, a human sacrifice of a young man was offered daily in the temple. Once, an elderly woman came to the temple to offer her son as a sacrifice. Emperor Vikramaditya requested the goddess to end this practice. When the goddess didn’t respond, he created a human effigy made of sweets and offered it as bhog (food) to the deity. Pleased, the goddess accepted the offering, and Vikramaditya requested that she remain on the opposite side of the river. Since then, the goddess has never demanded human sacrifice, and the temple was constructed in her honor.
