The Mythology of Kalkaji Temple
According to ancient belief, where the temple of Mata Kalkji is today, there used to be temples of other deities at some distance. Some demons and evil powers used to trouble the deities here, these gods went to the father of the world, Brahma, to protect themselves from the demons and evil powers. When Brahma showed the inability to protect them, they all went to Goddess Parvati, then Goddess Parvati produced Goddess Bhairavi from her mouth to protect them. Goddess Bhairavi started killing those demons, but as soon as the blood of those demons used to fall on the ground, many more demons used to arise there. Then Goddess Parvati manifested Goddess Kali from the eyebrows of Goddess Bhairavi and Goddess Kali drank all the blood of a demon before falling into the earth and the demon and her powers were put to an end by this star.
