History of Dakshin Delhi Kalibari Temple
The idea of establishing Kalibari came in 1967 at an informal meeting of some members of the Falguni Sangha Club of Sector 7, Ramakrishna Puram. The club organized Durga Puja in an open ground in the same year. The puja went well, but there was little extra money to start the construction of Kalibari. The members were intrepid and the search for a site was on. One winter morning, a pioneer swami came upon land at the foot of Malai hill and realized that the undulating land, slightly above ground level, but not too high, could be an ideal place for Kali to reside. The Welfare Association of Sector 7, Ramakrishna Puram wholeheartedly supported the idea.

A temporary temple was constructed amid heavy rains on Saturday, 13 July 1968, and the idol donated by Mrs. Purnima Gupta was installed on the same day and the organizers started worshiping regularly. This small image is now preserved in the permanent temple as Adi Devi. An Ad-hoc Committee for Kalibari Association was constituted in July 1968.
The wall worship of the temple was done on 20 July 1983. The foundation stone was laid by Swami Ranganathananda, Vice President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, on 7 November 1983 in the presence of Shri Pranab Mukherjee and several other distinguished guests. This marked the beginning of the most active phase in the history of Kalibari. On the “Snan Yatra” date of Lord Jagannath, i.e. Thursday, 11 June 1987, the south Delhi Kalibari temple was consecrated with the installation of the twin idol of Goddess Makali, Lord Shiva, and Radha Krishna.
