History of Agrasen’s Baoli, Delhi
The beginning of the construction of this Baoli is believed to be in the era of the 14th century, but if people believe, it was built in the Mahabharata period, which was built by Agrasen, the ancestor of the Agarwal community. It is believed that during the Mahabharata period, it was built by the Maharaja and ancestor of the Agrawal community, Agrasen. After that, in the 14th century, the people of the Agrawal community reconstructed and improved it. Seeing its architecture and design architecture, it is also linked to Lodhi and Tughlaq dynasties. The architecture of Agrasen ki Baoli
The Baoli is made of red sandstones, the length of the Baoli is 60 meters and the height is 15 meters. Where all other Baolis of Delhi have been made circular, whereas Agrasen’s Baoli has been made Rectangular Shape. In its architecture, the ‘whale fish-like roof, four pillars combined pillar with ‘Chaitya Aakriti’s carving, and medal ornamentation used in the arc wing give it uniqueness. There are 105 steps to reach the top water level of this Baoli. As you enter under the Baoli, the heat subsides and you feel cool. Door-like shapes have been made on the left and right sides of this Baoli. On the west side is a mosque with three entrances. It is on a solid high platform with underground corridors on the sides. The architectural style also of the stepwell matches that of the later Tughlaq and Lodi periods (13th-16th AD).

Why was this Baoli built?
This Baoli was made for the women of that time to take baths and get relief from the heat. Here women used to bathe and spend moments of peace sitting together in the summer season and this Baoli was also used in the festival.
