About Maihar Temple – Maihar Mata
Such is the story that Mata Sati, the daughter of King Daksha wanted to marry Lord Shiva But King Daksha did not want this. Mata Sati married Shiva against her wish. Daksha did not consider Shiva as God. They considered him only as the guru of ghosts and aphorism.
After some time King Daksha organized a Yagya. In which called Brahma, Vishnu, Indra Dev, and all the gods and goddesses to join but not Lord Shiva. Mata Sati was greatly hurt by this and she burnt herself alive in the same Yagya. When Lord Shiva came to know about it, he became very angry. He picked up the body of Sati from the Yagya and started roaming in the whole universe.
Lord Shiva started doing tandav and opened his third eye. Then Lord Vishnu divided Sati’s body into 52 parts with his Sudarshan Chakra to protect all the creatures of the world. Where the parts of Sati fell, it became “Shakti Peeth”. It is believed that the necklace of Mata Sati had fallen here. Hence the name of this place is Maihar which means mother’s necklace
