History of Madan Mahal and the story of Rani Durgavati.

Madan Mahal Fort was built in 1116 by the Gond king Madan Singh. Raja Madan Singh was the 10th king of the Gond dynasty. The Gond dynasty was a powerful empire of that time, which was spread far and wide.

The palace was built on a huge granite rock. This palace is a 2-story building. The fort was built from stones and lime and bricks were also used. Along with the palace, a stable, military room, and a pond were also built on the surface here. This palace was built as an outpost for protection from enemies and invaders. After Raja Madan Singh, Raja Sangram Shah was a majestic king of this dynasty who established 52 bastions.

After Raja Sangram Singh, his eldest son Dalpat Shah took over the throne and he was married to a Rajput girl Durgavati. Dalpat Shah died in 1550, after that Queen Durgavati got her 5-year-old son coronated and took the reins of power into her hands. The name of the son of Rani Durgavati was Veeranarayana. Rani Durgavati was a valiant warrior and her reign was very good, she built many step wells, ponds, and bastions.
