The history of this temple is about 500 years old and it was built by Rani Durgavati of Jabalpur in 1550-60. Rani Dutargavati was a great devotee of Goddess Sharda and she used to visit this temple daily for darshan.

It is said that once there was a famine during the reign of Queen Durgavati when Rani Durgavati offered prayers in this temple and raised red flags. After worshiping and offering flags, it started raining excruciatingly and the problem of famine was over. Since then till today there is such a belief that whoever offers flags to Sharda Devi, all his beliefs are fulfilled, and by doing so it rains.

The original idol of the goddess is inside the temple
Here 2 idols of Goddess Sharda are worshipped, one is outside the temple and the other idol which is about 78 years old is enshrined inside the temple. Apart from Goddess Sharda, there is also a temple of Lord Hanuman here and it is said that after worshiping Goddess Sharda, it is necessary to visit Hanuman Ji, otherwise the worship is considered incomplete.
