Shri Adhya Katyayani Shaktipeeth Temple, Delhi

Today we are going to tell you about a very special and famous temple located in South Delhi. The temple is called by the name of Shri Adhya Katyayani Shaktipeeth temple. This temple is located in Chattarpur on Delhi-Mehrauli road, which is why it is also known as Chattarpur Temple. The temple was constructed in 1974 and was built by a great saint who is known as Sant Baba Nagpal. Baba Nagpal was a resident of Karnataka state of India.

Shri Adhya Katyayani Shaktipeeth Temple is mainly the temple of Lord Durga who is worshiped here in the form of Mother Katyayani Devi. It is the second largest temple complex in India. Apart from Lord Katyayani, there are also temples of Lord Ganesha, Hanuman Ji, Sita-Rama, Markandeya, and Lord Krishna.

Maa Katyani is the sixth form of Goddess Durga, which is one of the 9 forms of Lord Durga. There is a huge crowd in this temple during Navratri. This temple is spread over an area of 70 acres and there are more than 20 temples built in this complex that are dedicated to various deities. As soon as you enter the Maa Katyayani temple, a huge tree is seen on the left-hand side on which many red and yellow threads are tied. It is believed that whoever ties thread and bangles on this tree, all his wishes are fulfilled.

Mythological History of Adhya Katyani.

In ancient times, there was a sage named Katyayan, he was a great devotee of Lord Durga. He did severe penance for Lord Durga. Pleased with his penance, Lord Durga appeared to him and asked him to ask for any boon he wanted. The sage sought the wish of Goddess Durga to be born as a daughter in his house and become her father.

Lord Durga was very happy to hear this wish and gave her a boon. And after some time she was born as a daughter in their house. Later the sage named his daughter Katyani. Later this girl became famous by the name Katyayani Devi, who is considered a form of Navdurga. And Chhatarpur temple is also dedicated to this goddess.
