History
The history of Kundalpur is as ancient as Jainism itself. According to ancient scriptures and beliefs, this region was once part of the Licchavi kingdom. Around the 6th century BCE, Lord Mahavira was born here to King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala. This sacred land is also the birthplace of Gautama Swami, the chief disciple (Ganadhara) of Lord Mahavira.
It is said that in ancient times, a grand Nandyavarta Palace stood here, from where the Licchavi rulers governed their kingdom. Later, the palace was transformed into a religious center, and the Trikal Chaubisi Temple was constructed, housing idols of 24 Tirthankaras from three different eras. Historians believe that some of the ancient temples and idols here are over a thousand years old, still carrying the imprint of the art, culture, and faith of that time.
During the medieval period, the site faced multiple invasions, leading to the destruction of many idols and structures. However, with the devotion of the Jain community and the support of local devotees, the temples were restored, and today the complex shines again as a vibrant pilgrimage site.

Architecture
The Kundalpur Jain Temple complex is a unique fusion of ancient and modern architecture. It consists of six main temples—one ancient temple known as Singhmukhi Tila and five magnificent new temples built in 2003.
Construction Materials: The spires and walls are primarily made of Jaisalmer stone and white marble, which radiate a golden glow in sunlight.
Main Temple: It enshrines a 4.5-feet high idol of Lord Mahavira in the Padmasana (lotus) posture, surrounded by artistically carved pillars depicting important events from Jainism.
72 Tirthankara Temple: Famous for housing idols of 72 Tirthankaras, each with a serene and compassionate expression symbolizing meditation and renunciation.

Spires and Domes: The temple spires are adorned with Kalash and fluttering flags, symbolizing faith and victory. The domes feature fine carvings of floral patterns, foliage, and geometric designs, blending Rajasthani and Magahi architectural styles.
