Located in the serene town of Bandakpur in Damoh district, the Shri Jageshwarnath Mahadev Temple is famous for its self-manifested Shivling. Directly opposite the Shiva shrine stands a temple of Goddess Parvati—an extraordinary arrangement symbolizing the oneness of ‘Ardhanarishwar’. The temple premises remain vibrant throughout the day with long rows of Kanwar baskets filled with Narmada water, a large assembly hall, and numerous sub-temples.

History – Establishment by Diwan Balaji Rao & Local Legends

According to local tradition and district records, Diwan Balaji Rao Chandorkar constructed the grand temple over the self-manifested Shivling in 1711 CE. About 100 feet directly opposite, facing east, stands the temple of Goddess Parvati. The site’s ancient significance stretches deep into folklore, though clear epigraphical evidence confirms the 18th-century construction.
Local lore also recounts a miraculous incident on January 15, 1938, when, following an earthquake, a stream of water gushed forth from the trident of the golden kalash—a phenomenon witnessed by the crowd gathered for the fair. This event has since become a cherished part of the temple’s miracle lore.
