History of Chappan Dukan:

Located in the Palasia area of Indore, Chappan Dukan came into existence in 1974. Originally known as the Udasin Ashram Market, it was a sparsely wooded area with no specialized facilities. The Indore administration recognized the need for an organized marketplace, and thus, 56 small shops were constructed for vendors to carry out their business. These shops were only 6×8 feet in size, mainly selling vegetables.

Over time, however, the area transformed, and these small shops expanded to offer a wide variety of items. By the 1980s and 1990s, Chappan Dukan gained immense popularity and earned the name “56 Dukan” or Chappan Dukan. By the 2000s, it became a landmark, attracting not only the locals but also celebrities, officials, and tourists who visited Indore.
