History
The history of Moti Sagar Pond dates back to around a thousand years. It was constructed around 1052 AD by Abhayram Banjara. At that time, due to severe water scarcity, the decision was made to excavate this pond. It is said that during the digging, many challenges arose, and it was believed that a sacrifice was needed to hold the water. Abhayram’s son and daughter-in-law willingly sacrificed themselves for the welfare of society and the people. In their memory, a cenotaph was built in the middle of the pond, which is still known as “Nama Samadhi.” This cenotaph continues to narrate the eternal tale of sacrifice and devotion. The pond, spread across about 428 bighas, reflects the grand scale and difficulty of its construction in that era.
