Dakshin Delhi Kalibari Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Lord Kali. This temple of Goddess Kali is situated at the foot of the hill of Malai Mandir in Ram Krishna Puram, Delhi. History of Dakshin Delhi Kalibari Temple Dakshin Delhi Kalibari Temple The idea of establishing Kalibari came in 1967 at an informal meeting of some members of the Falguni Sangha Club of Sector 7, Ramakrishna Puram. The club organized Durga Puja in an open ground in the same year. The puja went well, but there was little extra money to start the construction of Kalibari. The members were intrepid and the search for a site was on. One winter morning, a pioneer swami came upon land at the foot of Malai hill and realized that the undulating land, slightly above ground level, but not too high, could be an ideal place for Kali to reside. A temporary temple was constructed amid heavy rains on Saturday, 13 July 1968, and the idol donated by Mrs. Purnima Gupta was installed on the same day and the organizers started worshiping regularly. The wall worship of the temple was done on 20 July 1983. This marked the beginning of the most active phase in the history of Kalibari. On the “Snan Yatra” date of Lord Jagannath, i.e. Thursday, 11 June 1987, the south Delhi Kalibari temple was consecrated with the installation of the twin idol of Goddess Makali, Lord Shiva, and Radha Krishna. The temple complex approved by the Urban Art Commission etc. includes the main temple including a discourse hall, pilgrimage shelter, library, dispensary, Durga Bedi, open-air theater, etc. Due to the paucity of funds only the development work of the first phase of the building for the temple along with the discourse hall and pilgrimage shelter has been completed.
