History

It is believed that the temple was established in 1424 AD by King Raghav Dev of the Jhala Rajput dynasty. According to legend, while the Rajputs were bringing the idol of Bhairav Baba from Gujarat, their cart wheel got stuck near Moti Sagar Lake. Considering this as divine will, they installed the idol there itself. This nearly 600-year-old temple still stands as a strong symbol of faith and devotion.

The temple is built in the traditional Hindu architectural style with a sanctum (garbhagriha) and a pavilion (mandap). The idol of Bhairav Baba is uniquely established inside the trunk of a huge tree, making it rare and divine. The temple complex is beautified by kewda flower gardens. The idol is tied with iron chains. According to belief, Bhairav Baba used to leave the temple to play with children, hence devotees tied him with chains to keep him inside.

Special Features

The tradition of tying the idol of Bhairav Baba with chains is the most unique aspect of this temple. The temple’s name is linked to the kewda flowers blooming in its surroundings. Local folklore says that Bhairav Baba invites children to play and even takes them to the nearby lake, giving the temple a mystical aura. The temple has historic ties with the Jhala Rajputs, making it historically significant too.
